A leading aftermarket automotive company was looking to enter the OE market for power steering reservoir assembly. The company’s challenge with this segment was lack of knowledge, experience, and understanding of stringent OE quality requirements and processes, specifically the complete APQP deliverables related to PPAPs.
The company needed third-party support to properly execute the OEM requirements and simultaneously train their internal manufacturing plant quality resources and Tier 2 supply chain on AIAG and customer specific requirements for future programs and businesses. The expense and time demand to bring two suppliers up to speed and prepare them for future business endeavors was overwhelming.

Two quality engineers were assigned for a duration of three months to conduct system and process audits, review and approve the process documents, witness DVP and engineering product requirements, help conduct and interpret initial process capability studies and measurement system analysis, review and approve dimensional reports. The team captured product performance results per OE requirements and trained the company’s suppliers.
Internal staff and suppliers got trained on processes for OE business with good understanding of how to execute APQP/PPAP requirements were established to acquire future OE programs. The company was able to achieve their goal of entering the OE market within a shorter timeline with reduced expenses.
